I look back at the early versions of my jimcode website and I cannot help but ask “what was I thinking?!”. Still, it has been around for a long time in one for or another. Originally it was static HTML and CSS, and probably some tables. I quickly developed my own templating system called wemplates using java – I will see if I can dig the code up for it and post on here one of these days. From there I started building bits of the site and associated mini-sites using PHP, most of which was very custom and a pain to keep maintained. Around 2006 I realised that a proper CMS was the way forward and built my own theme using SquareSpace. I kept using for a few years before moving to WordPress. I can’t see myself changing from WordPress in the near future but who knows. It would be great to see if I can resurrect some of the old PHP projects I used to host before the move to SquareSpace – we will have to see. Anyway, here are a few screenshots – starting in 2002!
